The last time Econet reviewed its tariffs was in January 2022. The recently reviewed tariffs had been effective since 25 January 2022. It has been almost 4 months so there has been a semblance of price stability. The end of February saw Econet unveiling its first 5G base station – the first-ever in Zimbabwe. In April, Econet introduced its Smart USD Bundles. Econet is also on a quest to increase its number of 4G live sites. Recently they indicated they were bringing 181 more 4G live sites. They have rolled out more sites in Harare in places like Avondale, Newlands, Greendale, Sam Levy’s, Econet Park, RGM Airport, and Belgravia, amongst others. Anyways, here are the new bundle prices effective the 19th of May 2022:

The challenge of erratic network performance is still a huge one in Zimbabwe. All mobile network operators (MNOs) in Zimbabwe are not doing well. I have also noticed that coverage is still not in good shape. Maintenance and upgrade works are still mostly confined to urban areas. Most peri-urban and rural areas struggle with network issues, something that must be looked into. All the same, countless people in some urban areas always complain about network issues. No wonder when Econet unveiled the 5G project, many people raised concerns. This is because there are still many areas that do not even have 4G. So much needs to be done to improve mobile networks in Zimbabwe. It is counterproductive that we are implored to become more digitized yet the network is in shambles. It is hard for eCommerce, e-learning, and more to be firmly rooted in Zimbabwe with all those network challenges. Being someone who operates exclusively online, I know how depressing it can get.
