Making extra money is everyone’s desire, I suppose. I am yet to come across someone who does not have that desire. That desire is even more intense when operating in an environment like Zimbabwe. The reality for the majority of Zimbabweans is little to no income. The ever-increasing cost of living makes making extra money a necessity. I know you want to make extra money and that is why this article is here. Here are some ideas on how you can make extra money in Zimbabwe in relatively simple ways.
Home Gardening
This might not apply to everyone but it can if you are smart. For those with substantial portions of land at home, it is easier to start. My parents stay in a low residential area and have a significant portion of land. Growing up I used to see how easy it can be to start a home garden. If you are serious you can grow all your basic vegetables at home e.g. green leafy vegetables, onions, tomatoes, and so on. You can grow in excess such that you sell most of them. This is a smart way to make extra money almost daily.
If you are fortunate to have fruit trees at home you can do this as well. There are two avocado trees at my parents’ place. One tree can bring in at US$200 with literally zero costs. Even without significant land, you can go creative by gardening from containers. There is also hydroponic farming as well. I am telling you all this to start considering home gardening as a means to make extra money.
Making And Selling Artwork
I am using ‘artwork’ as an umbrella term here to refer to many possible things. It can be drawings, paintings, sculptures, pottery, and so many more. It depends on the particular craft you want to learn or can do already. This can also span to areas like photography e.g. stock photography. You can make artwork from almost anything. I have seen people making artwork from scrap metal, used vehicle tyres, and hyacinth, amongst others.
Clothing Design And Sewing
There are people out there who are skilled in sewing stuff. One of the side things my does is design and sew stuff. Many of you are like that but are not commercializing their skillsets. The great thing here is that you can start without that much money. You can start making money just by using the traditional sewing machine. As for the fabric, you can place that responsibility on the client. Just by that simple approach, you can start making money.
Many people might not be aware but there is limitless money in sewing clothes. I am currently assisting a close buddy of mine in setup a sewing business. Fortunately, he has the capital and managed to find a skilled clothing designer. I recently linked him up with a company that sells industrial sewing machines in Harare. If you think along collaboration lines you can make lots of money in this line of business.
Making And Selling Detergents And Beverages
I have seen several people making money by teaching others how to make detergents and beverages. I know someone who teaches these things. She delivers courses in making toilet cleaners, hair shampoos, dishwashing liquids, engine cleaners, bubble bath foam, washing powders, pine gels, floor polishes, concentrated drinks, freezits, jams, and tomato sauces. Many Zimbabweans are offering these courses at affordable prices. You can sign up for such and in no time you will be making and selling yours.
NB: The idea of making stuff can span too many other focuses. Other profitable products to make and sell are candles, soaps, and snacks (such as popped corn, roasted corn, and the like).
Making Or Sourcing And Selling Jewellery
This is something almost any of you can do. The easiest option is to just source and sell. Many brands have network marketing packages. Some provide fairly priced jewellery at wholesale prices, you place your mark-up and resell. The other option which you can explore is to make the jewellery yourself. Sounds intimidating at first but you can learn. It is up to your creative imagination. Some of the examples of materials you can make jewellery with are crystals, beads, and leather, amongst others.
Do not just be confined to the specific ideas I discussed in this article. Yes can do them as is but I also want them to inspire you to think outside the box. You can come up with or notice certain lucrative areas you can start something in. Think outside the box or as if there is no box.
