Events are an all-year-round thing but no time of the year screams events like the end of the year. And while people in business also like to rest for the festive season, there is no reason to stop making money if you can. In an “if you can’t beat them, join them” way of thinking, those in business should look for ways to be part of the many events that the festive season throws at us.  So here are some event-based business ideas. Bearing in mind that events cover many different types of events, from family events, fairs, parties and even more.

Food

One of my favourite and the right place to start as far as I’m concerned food works when it comes to events. It all depends on the type of event. You can look at catering for some events or pop-up food stalls at other types of events. There are many available options here, but this largely favours people already in the food business. You could, with a few tweaks, enter the food business just for events.

Drinks

You can hardly separate food from drinks but it felt right to do so here. There are many cases where you might want to sell drinks alone. A great article on a mobile bar business idea will put this into perspective for you. Depending on the event, you can look at selling alcoholic beverages, cold beverages and even hot beverages. There’s a lot of room to play here.

Photography

Memories are essential to events and nothing captures memories like a photograph. Save for maybe a tattoo. Event photography is a great way to make money too. There are two ways to look at it and I’d advise you to pursue a combination of the two. Look at something like a family fair type of event. You can offer event photography services to the event organiser and also offer patrons individual photography. Take it a step further and give them a photo booth or display to make it memorable. Add drone photography and you have it made.

Equipment hire

Of course, all these events require equipment and the equipment hire business is enormous. This earlier article suggests some of the best things to offer for hire in Zimbabwe. Anything you think of from PA systems, stages, toilets, tables, chairs and so much more. It all depends on the type of event but one thing is for sure, a lot of hiring of equipment goes on at event time. Find your thing and get in there.

Children’s entertainment

This obviously applies to family events but you could be a little smart about it and offer day care for events that may not precisely be family events. Now there are many considerations here, such as caring for young children, adult-to-child ratios and space to do it appropriately but this could be very lucrative. Back on planet earth, children’s entertainment is big at family events. And you can have many things like face-painting, clowns, costume characters, singing &dance and more activities just for the little ones.

Memorabilia

One final thing, people do love creating memories, as we said. So providing memorabilia or mementoes of events could also go very well for you. Again it depends on the type of event and what you can whip up quickly. However, if you think about the advances in things like printing t-shirts, it’s not hard to imagine offering someone a t-shirt with a print of their picture taken during the event. I might be tempted to pay for a t-shirt of myself at the Vic Falls carnival for example. You can think of many more great ideas that would work in this scenario.

And that is just a short list of some event-based business ideas you can pursue. Of course, with a mind to the festive season like we said before. However, events happen all year round, so there’s no reason you should be limited to just this season.
